Γsewn together with him Prophet, The Forerunner was published by the poet and philosopher Khalil Gibran in 1920, comprising 25 short poems and parables. As with every other work of his, o Forerunner is an honest and heartfelt reference to the great issues of life such as love, death, the sanctity of man and God. Deeply influenced by Blake, Nietzsche and the Holy Bible, Gibran used speech, especially poetry, as a key way to highlight universal issues of spirituality that bring the soul into a deeper relationship with the universe, the sacred and the divine.
You are the forerunner of your own self, you the stranger who passes through my garden door. I too am the precursor of my own self, though I sit in the shade of my trees and seem motionless.
