ΤWhat is Arcadia after all? In what dimensions does it spread, beyond literature, poetry, opera and landscape painting? Is this, on a symbolic level, an endless search that reaches the limits of utopia, or is it a proposal for the future, which includes the timeless Mystery of an inner transformation?

The evocative symbolism of this archetypal region, located in the center of the Heart, is presented as a thin thread between the past and the future. To find its origin, we must go back to the ancient times, to the common roots of science and the spirit, to the prehistoric links between the Matronic Age of prehistory and the roots of the Orphic-Dionysian religion.

The first volume of the History and Philosophy of the Arcadian Idealist, entitled Looking for Arcadia, is the fruit of a spiritual journey, but also an echo of an ancient place. It begins with the first Initiatic Troupe of Arcadists in Kos, continues with the influence of archetypal Arcadia in Alexandria, and concludes with the unknown tradition of Arcadism in Rome.

In this study, with exceptional simplicity and clarity, Yannis Spyropoulos maps the unexplored areas of human consciousness, connecting the deepest meaning of this idea with the historical continuity of a huge movement, upon which European Civilization was founded.

Author Biography

Ο Giannis Spyropoulos studied Theater at the Drama School of the National Conservatory and the Silvio D' Amico State School of Italy, Painting at the School of Fine Arts in Rome and Psychology at the University of Rome. He engaged in studies and research on ancient tragedy and its relation to Japanese traditional theater. He collaborated with the Instituto Integrato per lo Studio delle Tradizioni e della Civilta, preparing lectures and screenings regarding the religious and social organization of Matricentric Neolithic Society. In Sweden, he collaborated with the Stockholm Dance Museum for research on the relationship between theater and music.

A member of the Hellenic Center of the International Theater Institute, he created the Society "Ritual Theatre" for research into the ritual roots of the theater, as well as music, orchestration and scenography. He wrote seven plays for this new type of theater, in English and Greek. He worked as a "coordinator" in experiential seminars in Italy, England, Greece and Sweden and founded the Greek-Thai Association, for cultural exchanges between Thailand and Greece. A member of the Artistic Chamber, he has presented nineteen individual painting exhibitions in Greece and abroad. He has written articles in various magazines and participated in the writing of fourteen group books with Archetype publications. He founded and directs the "Artemisio, Center for Research and Dissemination of Greek Culture". He is the general manager of the "ALLON" Center: Services, Products, Events for Personal Development, Art and Culture.

His latest book, Initiation to the 13 Gates of Arcadia, refers to the inner dimension of Arcadism. A member of the Arcadian Academy of Rome, he is the founder and president of the "Arcadian Circle".
