A Metaphysical Interpretation in Symbols of the Poem
"Mother with your nine sons
and with your one daughter..."
Έamong our oldest and most widespread folk songs is that of Nekro Adelfos. It is the supernatural story of a dead man who is raised from the grave by his mother's curses to fulfill a vow.
The song was written before the 9th century AD. in Asia Minor and includes elements directly from ancient mythology. We find it in variations all over the Balkans, and to this day, it has inspired great writers and singers, as its themes are timeless questions of humanity, such as the concept of law, the power of the soul, death and the afterlife.
The purpose of this study is to delve into the verses not in a philological way, but by identifying those inner teachings that are hidden in the symbolism of the text. Thus, a philosophical reading is made that highlights the transformative power of myths, the law of cause and causality, the freedom of the will, the metaphysics of numerology, etc.
The song is framed by a unique illustration that helps us mentally travel through the magical space-time of the text, so that we can get to know the characters and the secrets they tell us more deeply.
